11. PS, PSS, PSSS Enough

Seriously, how forgetful can you get with many PSsss?

Adding too much info in 1 page takes too much effort to finish. Put links to each page for each category or elaboration. If your customers are interested to know more, they would click on the links.

Have tiered navigation instead of splashing everything in 1 page.

12. Are you selling your products or the Advertisers?

Do you want to compete with your Advertisers? Or do you feel the Advertisers compliment your services?

There has to be a balance – the main purpose is to sell yourself, your products and services. Secondary (and not necessary) is to make additional income from advertisers that your readers maybe interested in. So make sure Advertisers space and animations are way much smaller than yours!

4. Great deals

Is your selling point cheapness? I mean, super low price compared to your competitors? Is it quality?

Do you doubt why people would want to fork out $100 for something that you claim to be $2000? Are those products really worth $2000? Are you that desperate to earn a loss just to get more customers?

5. Transparency and honesty

You want to make the buyer feel like he/she is very special to discover your site/deal at that time and he/she deserves the Special Offer. You want to make him/her feel it’s urgent that he/she should get it NOW or there wouldn’t be such great deals in the future – Don’t Miss It!

If you are going to offer the deals to everyone but display “Only today!”, be prepared to get backlash when the same customer or another recommendation buys the same thing and get the same offer at ANOTHER date/time. Once your “secret” is out, your existing and potential customers could spread the word that you are cheating or misleading them.

It’s best to let your customers know up front when the deal will be over with the time zone. Bear in mind that you are doing an online business 24×7, not locally. 3pm in Kuala Lumpur may mean 3am in US.

Always tell the truth in the offers. If the offer is until … forever, just state that the offer still stands today. It may not be as exciting as “Last Day!” but it will certainly earn trust and respect from your customers in the future. Unless you are not in this business for the long run?
